Candle Care Guide | How to Make Your Candle Last Longer

Candle Care Guide

Proper candle care helps your candle burn safely, evenly, and last as long as possible. Follow these simple steps to get the best performance from your Orale Homestead candle.

First Burn Matters Most

The first burn sets the memory of your candle.

Allow the wax to melt completely across the surface before blowing it out. This usually takes 2 to 3 hours, depending on candle size.

This prevents tunneling and helps your candle burn evenly for the rest of its life.

Trim Your Wick

Before each burn, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch.

A properly trimmed wick helps:

• Prevent excess smoke
• Reduce soot buildup
• Maintain a steady flame
• Extend candle life

If the flame appears too large or flickers excessively, extinguish the candle and trim the wick before relighting.

Burn Time Guidelines

For best results, burn your candle for no more than 3 to 4 hours at a time.

Allow the candle to cool completely before relighting.

Continuous burning beyond this time may cause overheating or uneven performance.

Keep Away From Drafts

Air movement can cause uneven burning and smoking.

Avoid placing candles near:

• Open windows
• Fans
• Air vents
• High traffic areas

A steady flame creates the cleanest burn.

Candle Safety

Always follow basic candle safety practices:

• Never leave a burning candle unattended
• Keep away from children and pets
• Place on a stable, heat-resistant surface
• Keep away from flammable materials

Discontinue use when approximately 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom.

Caring for Mug and Concrete Candles

Our candles are poured into reusable vessels designed to live on after the flame.

After Your Candle Is Finished

To clean your vessel:

Allow the remaining wax to fully cool.

  1. Place the container in the freezer for several hours.
  2. Gently remove leftover wax.
  3. Wash with warm, soapy water.
  4. Dry completely before reuse.

Your vessel can then be reused as:

• A coffee or tea mug
• A planter
• A desk organizer
• Kitchen storage
• Home decor
